Hype Up Your Squad Energy Even When You’re Working Alone
Upping your productivity through teamwork, even when you work alone.
Being a solopreneur doesn’t have to be lonely. There’s a science (and a wee bit of magic) in the concept of teamwork that we can apply to our solitary work days, helping to up our mood, productivity and outlook.
Being in Sync with someone is powerful
Teamwork can mean many things, brainstorming in real time, quietly co-working in a shared space, or perhaps you’re just working side-by-side on totally different things. The effect can be the same. More motivation, more focus, and that stardust sprinkling of being in it together.
That’s what I’ve learned recently, both through action AND from Dr Ali Abdaal, in his brilliant book ‘Feel Good Productivity’. He calls it the comrade mindset. It’s the subtle idea that even when we’re working solo, we don’t have to feel alone. When we feel connected to others, we become more energised, more accountable, and more likely to stick with the work that matters.
It might not sound revolutionary, but this shift from working in parallel to working together has a magic all of its own. You know the feeling, when you're tapping away on your laptop in a co-working space or on a Zoom co-working call and suddenly find yourself in flow. You feel supported. You feel seen. You feel part of something. It’s not just you slogging away in isolation, all of a sudden, it’s us, in it together
ENergy gaining not energy draining
Having people around you, be that physically or virtually, can be incredibly energising. You don’t need to be actively collaborating , you don’t even need to be talking, but you’re working in sync. There’s an unspoken rhythm to it.
It’s that same buzz you get in a cafe where everyone’s hunched over their laptops. Or in a library. Or during a coworking session where no one says a word but everyone’s nailing their to-do list.
Research shows that even the illusion of teamwork increases motivation. That’s wild, right? Just thinking you’re working alongside others can have a tangible impact on how much you get done and how good it feels to do it. It’s all about tapping into that collective momentum.
You Win, I Win: we rise by lifting one another
This mindset matters in business, especially if you're a solo founder, freelancer, or small biz owner. When you’re the one wearing all the hats, it’s easy to slip into lone wolf mode. But productivity, and let’s face it, sanity, thrives on connection (my favourite thing!).
This can look different to each of us, it could be:
Sharing your goals with a friend or accountability buddy
Joining a co-working group
Booking a session with a coach or consultant to talk things through
Having a regular check-in with someone else on a similar path
Finding a community of like-minded people to share your journey and bounce ideas off
Even knowing that someone else is out there doing their thing while you do yours, can be the nudge you need to get started, stay on track, and actually finish.
Creating that teamwork vibe
When I work with clients, I always bring that comrade mindset. Whether I’m joining your existing team or it’s just you and me flying the flag for your business, I’m on your side.
Because yes, I write copy. But I also listen. I ask questions. I cheer you on. And when the words aren’t flowing, I help make sense of the swirl. My job is to capture your voice, bring clarity to your message, and give your audience something to connect with.
Together, we’re not just ticking off a task, we’re creating something that feels right. Something that will get you results.
Let’s get to work, together
Feeling stuck or slow or just not quite on it? Maybe you don’t need another productivity hack. Maybe you just need someone in your corner.
So whether it’s co-working online, teaming up for a project, or handing over your copy so you can focus elsewhere, I’m here for the team spirit.
Let’s make it feel good. Let’s make it count. Let’s do it together.
